C'mon Directv and Viacom

what's going on with these tv politics?

directv has started to posted some news on their channels that viacom is asking their customers to pay more for their channels.

they own mostly all the major networks like mtv, bet, tvland, nick, etc.

We've already been out of DirecTV's MEtv channel (49) for some 2 months. That's the channel that shows The Honeymooners, The Twilight Zone, Bob Newhart, Naked City, Columbo, Phil Silvers. It also shows others that I don't watch.

A notice on the screen says:

"NO NEED TO CALL US. Service will be restored as soon as technical difficulties are resolved. Please check this channel periodically for status. SORRY FOR THE INTERRUPTION."

"technical difficulties"? Yeah -- right. My son is on Camden's local cable provider and has had no interruption. My golfing buddy is on DISH -- no problem there.

A petition that really works! Change the law to bring the WTS to its knees!

i know that most people on here dislike the idea of a petition, but i think i finally realized a petition that could really work.

in the candice conti case she was allowed to start a civil lawsuit that was way past the statute of limitations.

because california has changed the their civil statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases.. so how do petitions come in?

I don't pretend expertise on "ex-post facto". However, Wiki does explain it somewhat: " Unfortunately, the issue is not so simple. With one ruling in 1798, the Supreme Court succeeded in muddling the issue of ex post facto laws by holding that the prohibition of retroactive laws applies only to criminal, not civil, laws."

And, as I understand it, the Conti case is a Civil, not criminal case.

after reading cruzenheart's post on the letter about her father, and the treatment he received from the co, william osbeck, and the elders of his congregation, it brought back my own memories of this particular co and his treatment of people.

it was 1995 and one of the hardest years of my life.

in february of that year, i learned i was pregnant with our fifth child.

he called my dad the next day and he said it was basically a distant grunt....until those magical words (sorry sparlock) "i was reinstated last night"....and then tinkerbell started spreading her fairy dust and all was well....my son is still hopeful he can still fade and will quickly rattle off to me the short list of successful faders he knows that have a pretty normal life.....i told him i so want to tell dad and my ex and the other most self-righteous ones that he is just like me and figured it all out by himself despite my best efforts to wake him up for years!!!!!.

but that would be toooooooooooooo easy toooooooo in your face doncha think???

Knowledge book (1995) and Worship book (2002)

i am looking for two publications which have been scanned before and made available as pdf files: knowledge that leads to everlasting life (1995) and worship the only true god (2002).. who could make these available again?

i know they are available on the wt library but i prefer the "untouched" scanned versions.. .

I can't answer your question. However, your statement, " I prefer the "untouched" scanned versions" intrigues me.

What do you mean by "untouched"?

I mean, if I get a Library CD from a kingdom hall, is there a possibility that it is somehow "touched"? And by "touched" do you mean tampered with or altered? Can JW's not trust anyone anymore?

Congratulations -- I know the thrill. I only have one and have been at it for some 58 years.

Your next thrill may be to shoot your age. At 72 I've done that 2 weeks in a row (only golf on Wednesdays). 69 and 68 consecutively.

Um ... you need to pick out an easy course like the one we play at. Ha!!! Yes, it's par 72 but no watered fairways means your drive is landing like in a parking lot. That's the upside. The downside is your scoring shots must hit the green or fringe -- else they're landing on a parking lot.

What are the titles of the Congregation Elders?

what are the titles currently being usined for the congregational elders?.

"presiding overseer" was one title that was used for a long time, but i know that was changed awhile ago.. are they even called "overseers" anymore?.

what was the reason for the change?.

Another piece of trivia. Who are Watchtower representatives? Answer: not the rank-n-file, nor any of the above. It includes Circuit Overseers or above.

Hmmm .... I would have sworn that Mouthy had a few things to say. Then it disappeared.

Back on topic -- it's their contradictions, a boatload of them. The irony is that they say they've not done it -- which, in effect, becomes a contradiction. THE GREAT WATCHT0WER CONTRADICTION is an 11 minute read that, although designed for new ones, challenges even the most experienced JW when you encounter them at the door.
